101 days to Co/Mix 2011!

Monday 21 March, not only Human Rights Day and the beginning of autumn but also the start of the countdown of 101 days to Co/Mix 2011! 101 days before we pull the curtain and your artwork will be viewed and reviewed by hundreds of local and international art lovers. Are you nervous yet? Dreaming about being in the spotlight? Or nightmares of stage fright?

Well, I can tell you, we are nervous too! 101 days left for us to organise and for you to complete your art. 101 days until the curtain falls. That means… 71 days until final submission!

71 days to finish your artwork! 71 days for us to organise crating and transport to get your work in Grahamstown in one piece. We’ve heard the most horrific stories about frames breaking, canvas being scratched and prints being sliced by broken glass. Asphalt and vans are apparently every artwork’s worst enemies and the road to Grahamstown is long. A 10 hour drive in which a lot can go wrong. But no worries, we’ve done our research and we’ve come up with a plan. The A-Team! Wrap it in 27 layers of bubble wrap, tape it, crate it, stuff it with more bubble wrap, blankets and everything soft and fluffy, then bolt it down in a van and let the A-Team drive it up to Grahamstown. Sounds like a solid plan right?! It is!!

But we need your help! We need to know what dimensions and media we are dealing with. Are you working with glass, canvas, print, plastic, wood, rock, cardboard or toilet paper? And how big or small is your artwork? Does it reach to your ankles, your knees, your head? If it reaches to your head, we might have a problem. Better notify us pronto! Is the width that of a piece of paper, a window or a door? Is the depth similar to your bathroom mirror or more like the wall behind it?

I know you’re all gonna hate me for chasing you like this but please think, look and decide on the final medium and dimensions of your artwork! We need to know this before 1 April. It’s the only way we can make a plan and get your artwork in all its glory to Grahamstown. And while you’re at it, please also decide on the value of your work so we can insure it (just in case the A-Team stuffs up but as you know they never do).

Look out for an email from us in the next few days with more information about the gallery shop, and a form to fill out with your details about artworks and products.

A big huge Thank You from the Co/Mix aka the A-Team!
