As an illustrator, I’m used to working from certain themes and within defined boundaries. So in my own art, I also like to look for concepts that use the context of that particular working situation (location, history,…) and channel them into figurative pieces. That’s why for this project, I’d like to make several diptychs picturing indigenous things from my homeland of Belgium parallel to ones from the country I’ll be travelling to in July, South Africa: animals, plants, houses, objects,… This first sketch has a couple of local fish! I’m also preparing to work on a travel journal while I’m in Grahamstown, so anyone who would like to join in some day trips or sketching sessions out and about during the festival, don’t hesitate!

I love your idea of sketching missions and sketching parallels between our two countries.
