Lieve Vanleeuw

March 6, 2011

Lieve Vanleeuw is the only member of the Co/Mix team who does not participate as an artist so I asked her for a short bio to post so that everybody can learn more about her.

Lieve is originally from Belguim and has been in South Africa for 5 years. She is a development consultant with a creative flair who has worked with community and national development organisations for the past 4 years. Her role and specialty is project management, from raising funds, to implementing the project, to administering the finances and writing reports. Since 2008, Lieve has been involved in several comic art projects and has been working as a consultant for the Centre for Comic, Illustrative and Book Arts (CCIBA). Since her childhood, comic art has been her passion. It was her ultimate dream come true when she partnered up with Andy Mason to establish Words & Images and is now coordinating Co/Mix 2011.

Lieve identifies with the cartoon character Wiske (left). Suske & Wiske is one of Belgium’s most famous ‘strips’ and one of the first ‘strips’ that she started reading at the age of 8 or 9. Her brother and his friends had the whole collection (more than a 100 editions) and she got hooked. So much so that she patiently stole the whole collection out of their clubhouse, one at a time. Lieve says, she didn’t have the patience to read books but comics would keep her quiet for hours and it all started with Suske & Wiske.

Lieve is calm, energetic, capable and creative and you can be sure Co/Mix will go off smoothly with her on board.
